  • To help our customers be successful.

The Past

Stewart & Sons was started in 1918 by Arthur C. Stewart selling open pollinated seed corn. Although Arthur only had an eighth grade education, he always strived to learn more about production agriculture so he might help his customers become more productive. He saw through his continuing education the potential of hybrid corn and he offered his first hybrids to local farmers in 1936. The demand for hybrid corn grew as farmers saw the benefits of this new technology. After World War II, Arthur’s sons, Gilman and John, joined him in the seed business. Seed sales doubled as agriculture evolved and the business continued to grow. Stewart & Sons eventually became known as Stewart Bros. The ‘name’ transformation continued to evolve in the years to come. In 1979, a 3rd generation came to manage the business and thus it became known as Stewart Seeds, Inc.

Present

On September 1, 2005, Stewart Seeds, Inc became an Independent Operating Company of American Seeds, Inc. (ASI), a holding company of Monsanto. The remaining company, S&G Company Group (S&G), which is owned by the 3rd and 4th generations of Arthur Stewart, is now challenged with supplying the highest quality of seed to Seed Businesses across the Midwest. A full line of products, including Seed Production, Seed Conditioning, Warehousing, Box Washing, Seed Delivery direct to farmers and purebred Angus livestock, is offered to the companies that supply farmers in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.

FUTURE

Through efficient production and conditioning of seed corn, beans and wheat, S&G continues to meet the needs of our clients. It is through S&G’s commitment to produce and condition the finest seed quality, along with our customer service, that will allow the S&G Company Group to market to the seed industry for years to come.
